On January 3rd, 2018, two new hardware vulnerabilities (Meltdown and Spectre) were widely reported in the media. They impact a number of Intel, AMD and ARM computing architectures.
Meltdown affects the most fundamental isolation of user applications from the operating system, which could allow a program to access memory being used by another program, or the Operating System; while “Spectre” is reported to break the isolation between error-free applications.
You can read more at https://meltdownattack.com/.
To remedy these vulnerabilities, they must be addressed by software patches at the operating system level. We have already applied the patches at node level but it require a reboot for the fix to take effect. Hence we have scheduled a maintenance window between 2 AM to 4 AM EST on Saturday, 6 January 2018. However, the downtime for individual VPS will be around 20-30 minutes within this maintenance window. Our technical support team will validate the state of VPS after the activity and no action is expected from your side.
We thank you for your co-operation in advance.
